Chocamine® is an artificially produced alternative to chocolate. It is utilized in a variety of health products as it has the ability to provide the health benefits, taste, and aroma of chocolate without the detrimental sugar and fat content. The supplement is formed from the alkaloid theobromine — extracted from cocoa solids — which is then mixed with beneficial amino acids, antioxidants, and nutritional minerals such as magnesium.

Theobromine is an alkaloid that is known to posses stimulating properties. The high concentration of this alkaloid in chocolate is one of the root causes of the craving effect that chocolate can produce. By mixing theobromine with other stimulating amino acids and members of the methylxanhine alkaloid group, such as caffeine, the manufacturers of Chocamine® have created a product that has been shown to improve cognitive function and attention focus.

The product can be found in a variety of health foods, diet products, and mental focus aids. It can be taken in a variety of forms such as drinks, food bars, chewing gum, and dietary supplements. The benefits of Chocamine® range from its usefulness as a healthier alternative to natural chocolate to potential applications in the field of mood control. The stimulating nature of the alkaloids and chemicals contained within the product also mean that it can be beneficial in skin care and antiaging products. Clinical studies have shown a significant improvement in short-term memory and motor skills in test groups given the product compared to placebo testing.

There are two main forms of the product available; these variations are known as Chocamine® and Chocamine® Plus. The Plus variety differs from the regular version only through an elevated caffeine content. Measurements show that there is 40 milligrams (mg) of caffeine in each 500 mg serving of the Plus product compared to a trace caffeine content in the standard variety. Results from clinical trials of the product showed a slight increase in motor skills and other cognitive functions in test groups given Chocamine® Plus over the standard product.

By utilizing naturally derived elements and well-researched chemical additives, Chocamine® is generally considered to be a safe supplement to take. The only known side effects found from users of the product stem from the high caffeine levels in Chocamine® Plus. As caffeine is a well-known diuretic, it can cause excessive water to be dispelled from the body when urinating. Caffeine can also contribute to disturbed sleep patterns.
