A Danish translator provides translation of materials prepared in Danish, or translates materials into Danish for the benefit of people who cannot understand them in the original language. Danish translators can work in Denmark and outside of Denmark, and they may provide a range of services. There are a number of ways to become a Danish translator, ranging from being bilingual and using this to get jobs to receiving specialized training which is aimed at people who want to become translators.

Like many languages, Danish comes in different dialects, and can be quite variable. A Danish translator who works with different dialects needs to be able to distinguish between them. Additionally, there is a Danish version of Sign which is used by people who are Deaf and hard of hearing in Denmark, and a Danish translator may opt to specialize in Sign, working with both Deaf and hearing clients. For example, a Danish translator could translate between Danish Sign and spoken Danish for the benefit of hearing speakers who do not understand Sign.

One area in which a Danish translator can work is in document preparation. This can include translation of official government documents, translation of articles, and similar services. One advantage to working with written Danish in documents is that the translator can take his or her time with the translation. Official translators may be used by the government to provide materials in multiple languages for the benefit of citizens and visitors, and Danish translators can also work for publishing houses, newspapers, and so forth.

Translation of spoken Danish is another service which may be offered by a Danish translator. This can include live and simultaneous translation which may be used when people need to communicate with people who do not have a language in common. The need for translators arises at international events, conferences, courts, and hospitals, among other locations. Translations of spoken language can also be provided during broadcasts so that interviews can be played in the original language and translated so that viewers and listeners can understand.

A Danish translator may also work preparing subtitles of films being translated into or out of Danish, and can participate in dubbing as well. The more languages a Danish translator is familiar and comfortable with, the more employable he or she will be. Especially if a translator has specialized skills such as medical translation in multiple languages, it can be usually very easy to find work.
