Problems with the reproductive system that can affect both males and females include infertility, sexually transmitted diseases, and cancer of the reproductive organs. There are also reproductive issues that affect each gender exclusively. Some of the most common problems with the reproductive system affecting males include erectile dysfunction and prostate inflammation. Female reproductive issues include endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and uterine fibroids. Any suspected problems with the reproductive system should be reported to a doctor for further medical evaluation and development of an individualized treatment plan.

Infertility is among the most common problems with the reproductive system and can affect both males and females. Male infertility can be caused by low sperm counts, genetic abnormalities, or exposure to environmental toxins. Fertility problems affecting females may be due to factors such as hormonal imbalances, abnormal ovulation patterns, or physical damage involving the fallopian tubes or other reproductive organs.

Sexually transmitted diseases and cancer of the reproductive organs are possible problems with the reproductive system. Gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis are among the most common sexually transmitted diseases and can cause problems such as infertility, abdominal pain, or damage to the reproductive organs. Testicular, ovarian, and uterine cancer are reproductive cancers that can cause temporary or permanent infertility, depending on the types of treatments used.

Erectile dysfunction and prostate inflammation are common problems with the reproductive system. Men who have erectile dysfunction are unable to achieve or maintain an erection long enough to have a meaningful sexual encounter and may also experience a lowered sex drive. Inflammation of the prostate gland, known as prostatitis, can lead to pain in the abdominal or groin area as well as difficulty when attempting to urinate.

Endometriosis is among the potential problems with the reproductive system that affects only females. A specific type of tissue, known as the endometrium, normally grows inside of the uterus. When this tissue begins to grow outside of the uterus, a potentially painful condition known as endometriosis develops, frequently causing infertility and other health problems.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS, is a medical condition that causes multiple cysts to grow in one or both ovaries. Pelvic pain, weight gain, and abnormal hair growth are common symptoms of this disorder. Uterine fibroids are masses that develop inside of the uterus and often lead to longer and heavier menstrual periods, pelvic pain, and constipation. Both of these potential problems with the reproductive system can lead to infertility issues.
