Lansoprazole is a prescription drug used to treat a number of stomach disorders. Some common lansoprazole side effects include stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and headache. Severe side effects include tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips and tongue, a hive-like rash, or changes in vision. In rare instances, patients may experience dizziness, fainting, numbness in the arm, or ringing in the ears.

Some of the conditions lansoprazole may be used to treat include gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and ulcers. This is because it is a proton pump inhibitor, which means it decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Despite providing relief for gastric issues, the most common lansoprazole side effects deal with the stomach and include stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, and constipation. In more severe instances, people may vomit up matter that looks like coffee grounds.

Before taking lansoprazole, patients should advise their physician on what other medications or nutritional supplements they are currently taking. They should also let him know if they have any allergies, especially to other medications. Doing so can help him determine whether this is the right treatment option and may allow him to give advice on how to reduce the possibility of side effects from taking this drug.

I've been taking lasoprazole since I was prescribed them at the age of 22. I'm now 33 and I have developed breathing trouble myself. I've not had any tests done yet but my anxiety is through the roof daily and I've always put it down to stomach related issues. I don't believe anyone should be on lansoprazole as long as I've been it says your only supposed to be on it for a few months! And I'm taking the maximum dose.

They changed me to omeprazole which completely stopped my stomach problems but landed me in E.R almost because of the level of anxiety I experienced. I've also done ranitidine at the maximum dosage also, and that's not working as expected either. It's so bad with the medication that the doctors have booked me for an endoscopy asap. I had an ultrasound done and nothing was revealed, so the camera is the only solution left, well apart from drinking barium. That is, not a nice taste but if it reveals something, all the better.

As for lansoprazole itself, I've read now on many forums that it's not just me experiencing the shortness of breath; it is a very large percentage of us who get it while on this drug, so I will be stopping it and seeing how it goes from here on out.
