Which US City Exports the Most?

As of 2010, the most export-oriented city in the U.S. is Wichita, Kansas. 28% of the city's gross metropolitan product is sold abroad. Two of its major exports are small aircraft and soybeans. Wichita is closely followed by Portland, Oregon, and San Jose, California.

Other facts about exports and imports:

  • In 2009, the US exported more than $1 trillion US dollars (USD) worth of goods. The largest export markets for the US are Canada, Mexico, and China.

  • The US also imported close to $1 trillion USD worth of merchandise in 2009, primarily from Canada and China. Trade with China contributed almost $300 billion USD to the US trade deficit. This is approximately 30% of the US trade deficit.

  • In 2007, close to 75% of the world's exports were bought by America.
