Where Is Canada's Population Situated?

About 90 percent of Canada's population lives within about 100 miles (160 km) of the U.S. border — that's over 30 million Canadians all living within 100 miles of the U.S.

More facts about Canada's population:

  • Almost 40 percent of Canada's population lives in one territory: Ontario. Another one-fourth or so lives in Quebec, followed by British Columbia and Alberta, each of which have about 10 percent of the population.

  • Although Nunavut is the largest territory in Canada, only about 30,000 people live there.

  • Canada has a high rate of migrants in its population. In fact, it is ranked 15th in the world in terms of the percentage of migrants per native citizens, right after Australia, the only other large country in the top 15.
