A property manager resume is used to provide potential employers with an organized summary of education and employment. The primary purpose of a resume is to show how your skills match or closely relate to the skills required by the employer. A property manager resume is usually a combination cover letter and resume.

There are two main types of property managers: residential and commercial. A residential property has different requirements and the position is more involved in the daily operations of the building than is common in commercial property management. Commercial property managers must ensure that common services are provided, such as security of the property, maintenance, cleaning of common areas, and landscaping. The primary role of property manager is to arrange leases, collect rental payments, respond to maintenance requests, and resolve emergencies.

On a property manager resume, the first item is typically a chronological list of positions, employers, and a brief description of the responsibilities of that position. If you have a long employment history in property management, highlight this experience by listing the positions by title and then by employer and dates of employment. The repetition of the property manager title will highlight your experience.

If you have experience in a range of related positions, but have never been a property manager, then group your positions by function. For example, if you have worked as building superintendent at several different places, group those together. Experiences in maintenance, repair or a skilled trade should also be grouped together. Use the cover letter to explain exactly how these positions relate to the current job requirements.

Skills to highlight on a property manager resume include detail orientation, ability to work independently, and excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills. Conflict management and resolution is an important part of a property manager’s job. Issues can arise between tenants, maintenance staff, customers, and community members.

After your professional experience, create a section of academic achievements. Use this portion of the resume to list your post-secondary education. Include the name of the institute and the specific program title. If you have not completed the program, clearly state the number of years that were completed. Avoid the temptation to exaggerate. Academic qualifications are the easiest of all information to confirm, and more candidates are eliminated from consideration for lying than for failing to complete a degree or diploma.

Include any certificates, courses, and seminars that are relevant that you have completed. Ongoing training indicates dedication and commitment to personal and professional development. Computer skills are increasingly important and should be highlighted on a property manager resume. List any online courses or classes taken to gain these skills.
