Cement rendering is a process where a thin, premixed coating of lime, sand and cement is applied to a wall or fence. Various different surfaces can be coated with cement rendering, such as cement, brick, mud brick, and even stone. The rendering application process can also include a textured or colored mixture, or it can simply be painted after it has been applied and had time to set properly. Cement rendering is basically an application process that adds strength and beauty to existing walls and fences by using a premixed concrete based material.

Traditional cement rendering is an application process that was first designed by settlers, beginning back in Australia, to increase the ability of buildings to weather various weather changes. This coating not only helped the building maintain a comfortable living environment within, but it increased the life of the materials that were used to build the structure. Wind, rain, and even snow cannot penetrate past the cement barrier, so the structural integrity of the building remains intact for decades. Traditional applications mostly cover exterior walls and fences, but it can also be used for interior applications under specific circumstances.

Colored textured cement rendering is a process that follows along the lines of the traditional method, but color and texture is added into the mix in order to add style and design to the building that it is being applied to. This type of rendering is used inside and outside because the color is more durable than paint, and the shades are more uniform. Since this coating is applied during one application process, there are no lines, color variations, or even blotches that can naturally appear after painting. This method of rendering is commonly used in various areas of the world where larger, older style homes and businesses are occupied.

The final application process of cement rendering includes adding a plastic or acrylic compound into the mix to increase the strength and durability even more. Various different materials can be used as a plastic or acrylic additions, but the most commonly used is the material that is used to manufacture Styrofoam cups. Polystyrene is a durable material that is flexible and able to be colored and textured to match the specific application requirements. Acrylic is another compound used to increase the strength of the mixture, and it is commonly found in shatter proof glass applications. Acrylic and plastic compounds added into the mix can increase the durability, strength, and design of the rendering, while still allowing the application process to be a task that is easily accomplished.
