What is an Angiostatin?

An angiostatin is a kind of protein found in the bodies of humans, as well as some kinds of animals. It is called an angiostatin because the element can control the generation of new blood vessels. Angiostatin clinical trials are now determining how angiostatins might be used for the treatment of various types of cancers.

Scientists have seen that angiostatins inhibit angiogenesis. Angiogenesis is the creation of capillaries or blood vessels within an existing network of vessels. Angiogenesis is very necessary for many kinds of human processes, but in specific situations involving carcinogens, slowing angiogenesis may help in reducing the growth of cancerous tissues or elements.

Angistatin elements bind to other kinds of proteins and cell biology structures. One of these is angiomotin. Scientists have found that the presence of angiomotin can play a role in cells where angiostatin decreases new growth.

In many studies, angiostatins are applied to endothelial cells. Endothelial cells are a specific kind of cell that is manifested in the inner areas of blood vessels. The endothelium is the inner surface of the blood vessel.

Anti-angiogenesis agents, like angiostatin, inhibits the growth of new blood vessels to cancerous tumors, hoping to kill them.

New theories about the endothelium include the possibility of what experts call endothelial progenitor cells. These cells, in theory, travel within the blood stream, bringing growth capacity to specific areas of the blood vessel network. This kind of research is applied to general cell growth, or to specific cases like the aftermath of a myocardial infarction or heart attack.

The variety of ways that an angiostatin is produced leads to a lot more research about how to manipulate various natural and synthetic chemicals. Other scientists focus research on the natural processes of angiogenesis and vasculogenesis, the creation of larger blood vessels. The chemical makeup of items like ATP Synthase forms a critical part of the theory around different uses of angiostatins.

Some medical researchers on the vanguard of new progress around angiostatins are looking at creating angiostatic cocktails for patient treatments. An Angiostatic cocktail is a blend of FDA approved drugs that has angiostatic capabilities. Using angiostatic cocktails eliminates the need for waiting for the FDA to specifically approve a single medication for angiostatic treatment. Parties involved in this kind of research argue that the potential for angiostatins in treating cancer is a scientifically proven reality. Angiostatin research continues to draw interest in the medical community as a way to innovate in the treatment of some chronic illnesses.
