What is an Airstream™ Trailer?

Airstream trailers™ are a recreational vehicle that are considered luxury class. The Airstream™ trailer is instantly recognized by its aluminum exterior and rounded appearance. Initially the rounded design was used to increase gas mileage by reducing drag and having a more aerodynamic style. Now, however, the rounded appearance and aluminum design make the Airstream™ trailer instantly recognizable on roads all across America.

Airstream trailers™ are built at a factory in Jackson Center in Ohio. Airstream holds the distinction of being the oldest manufacturer of recreational vehicles in the United States. Airstream survived the Great Depression and the Second World War.

There are many different companies that manufacture motor homes, but Airstream™ is a unique brand of RV for many reasons. The early years of recreational trailers saw many competitors come and go. Nearly all of these brands of motor homes did not survive the Great Depression. During World War II, the aluminum used in the trailers was needed for other uses, so the Airstream Company halted production. After the war it was again common to see an Airstream™ trailer tooling across the country.

While the demand for recreational vehicles ebbs and flows, Airstream manufacturers approximately 2,000 trailers and motor homes each year. Since the end of the Second World War, Airstream™ trailers have faced competition from other RV manufacturers. They have held strong, and even expanded into the European market. The consistent quality of Airstream™ is one of the selling points of the motor homes.

When shopping for a recreational vehicle, you will want to take the time to look at Airstream™ trailers. Shopping for a motor home, whether new or used, is a big decision. When looking at trailers, consider how you plan to use the vehicle. Will you go camping once a year, or do you plan to take it on a trip across the United States and Canada? Are you a retiree traveling with a spouse or a family with young children?

The cost of a recreational trailer, whether you choose an Airstream™ trailer or another brand, is significant. Options add up quickly, as does adding size. It makes sense to make a list of what you consider the most important options to you before you begin shopping. Some people want a complete kitchen, while others would prefer a larger living space. Only you and your family can decide what the best choice is.

While many people chose a trailer with room to expand, that is not the best choice for everyone. Buying a trailer that is larger than you need means paying more initially. It also means paying more each time you use the vehicle. A larger vehicle costs more to operate, and, if you have a trailer that requires a tow vehicle, it increases the wear on that vehicle as well.
