What Is a TV Subwoofer?

Subwoofers are special speakers that project a deep bass sound to the television audience. A TV subwoofer is a speaker that is connected to the audio output of a television. This type of speaker typically requires an audio receiver to be connected to a television output.

The first considerations when buying a TV subwoofer are the size and budget. A typical living area will only require a 10-inch (25.4 cm) subwoofer. Larger living spaces may require a bigger subwoofer but these are more expensive.

An amplified TV subwoofer is a speaker that is powered by a built-in amplifier. This type of subwoofer can be connected directly to a television. Using a powered subwoofer saves money because it doesn’t require an audio receiver to work.

Most advanced home theaters have a TV subwoofer. This is a special speaker that captures the low frequency from the audio receiver or television. The subwoofer makes action movies come to life by playing the deep tones from a broadcast. To play only the low frequencies from the television, a subwoofer has a filter that captures sounds from 20 to 200 Hz. Using this type of speaker creates a low bass tone in the room and can actually felt by the TV viewers.

A TV subwoofer requires a single output from the audio receiver. This is a special connection that is available in most modern receivers. The mono connection ensures that all music and sounds are transmitted out to the speaker from the audio receiver.

Most homes theater rooms only need a single subwoofer for the TV. This typically provides adequate bass for movies and music. Larger rooms may require two subwoofers, but this can produce an abundance of bass that may become overwhelming.

It is important to decide what type of finish the TV subwoofer should have. Subwoofers are available in black, white, or wood lamented material. Selecting a speaker that matches the existing audio equipment ensures a consistent look and feel for the home theater room.

A subwoofer requires a special connection to an audio receiver. There are several types of speaker cables available specifically for subwoofers. Using a heavy-duty cable can increase the overall power sent to the speaker, which may increase the bass experience.

There are many brands of subwoofers to choose from. These vary in price and should be selected carefully. The subwoofer is normally hidden from the audience and doesn’t need to be a expensive piece of equipment. As long as the speaker is adequately powered, it should provide enough bass to enhance the sound of a home theater.

I am amazed to know the details you gave on USB. I had never thought that USB is running the market for many things. Well, I have to make an inquiry now. I am planning to purchase a 5.1 multimedia speaker set, and my search almost ended at F&D F - 900U 5.1 multimedia speakers, which I am one step closer to buying. It has a USB port, which allows an SD reader. I am wondering whether it allows my portable TV to be connected to it so that I can play music and watch movies on TV through the USB port. I appreciate your response.
