A showerhead is a bathroom fixture that directs the spray of water in a shower. Just like a garden hose sprayer, a showerhead can typically be adjusted to direct water in a shower in different directions and different spray patterns. A showerhead is the easiest bathroom plumbing fixture to replace and there are a wide variety to choose from.

Replacing a showerhead can add elements to a shower that are beneficial in several ways. Models that feature a water-saving design and use 2 gallons per minute (gpm) or less can reduce water use and save money. The average showerhead uses between 2.5 and 2.2 gpm, but even replacing an existing showerhead with an average model can help save money if it has unique features. Some models have on/off switches on the top of the showerhead allowing you to shut off the water while you soap or shampoo without losing water temperature.

Other showerhead models feature varying spray patterns, some of which are designed to be therapeutic by increasing water pressure to create a massaging spray pattern. Typically, showerhead models with varying spray patterns feature two or three settings to switch between. These models also typically feature adjustable spray arms, allowing the water to be directed to different areas of the body.

Other features a showerhead may have include wider heads, as big as 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter or more, and increase water coverage and some have an attached hose and are removable. A removable showerhead, also called a handheld showerhead, is a useful feature for cleaning showers and tubs and washing pets and small children. Some showerheads feature two heads, or paddles, on one arm.

With so many varying features, it’s easy to find a showerhead that meets anyone’s personal needs. Hardware stores, home improvement stores, and even discount department stores sell showerheads. They are easily replaced by simply unscrewing the old showerhead from the existing shower pipe and screwing on the new one. The price for a new showerhead is as varied as the selection and begins at under $10.00 US Dollars.
