A kidney tumor is a type of mass that develops in the kidney and may or may not be cancerous. In the early stages, there may not be any noticeable symptoms. As the tumor begins to grow, it may press against blood vessels, nerves, or other surrounding structures. Some of the most common kidney tumor symptoms include pain, fatigue, and loss of appetite. Urine tests may detect blood in the urine in some cases, and blood pressure levels may become elevated.

Pain is one of the most common kidney tumor symptoms, especially if the tumor is particularly large. This pain may be felt in the back, where the kidney is located, or there may be abdominal pain on the side of the affected kidney. Depending on the exact location of the tumor, there may be a visible or palpable lump present. Pain from the tumor may come and go, or it may be constant, depending on the size and location of the tumor.

Loss of appetite and fatigue are typical kidney tumor symptoms. Decreased feelings of hunger may lead to a remarkable weight loss, often increasing the levels of fatigue caused by this condition. Muscle aches and pains sometimes develop as a result of the tumor. Flu-like symptoms such as fever, dizziness, and a general feeling of being ill are frequently reported kidney tumor symptoms as well.

Blood flow changes related to the tumor may create such symptoms as high blood pressure or blood in the urine. High blood pressure, medically known as hypertension, is a serious complication that becomes possible when any type of kidney problems are involved. Hypertension can generally be effectively controlled with a combination of prescription medications and dietary or lifestyle modifications. Blood in the urine may be so minimal that it is only detectable in urine tests, or it may be severe enough to be visible when urinating.

Any potential kidney tumor symptoms should be reported to a doctor right away for further medical evaluation. While most of these tumors are not malignant, cancerous tumors can become fatal if not treated promptly. Treatment depends on a variety of factors, including the type of tumor present and the patient's overall health. Surgical intervention to remove the tumor is often effective, although radiation treatments or chemotherapy may be necessary if the tumor is found to be cancerous. Any questions or concerns about potential kidney tumor symptoms or individualized treatment options should be discussed with a doctor or other medical professional.

My uncle had all the classic symptoms of a kidney tumor for several months before he went to see a doctor about it.

He had back pain, increased blood pressure and unexplained weight loss and fatigue. They found a tumor on his kidney, but because of the location did not want to biopsy it right away.

What they did discover was that his kidney functions were extremely low. He had to begin dialysis treatments. He did feel like he had a little bit more energy after starting the treatments, but they can take a toll on you as well.
