Diabetic patients may experience an elevation of blood sugar levels when using this supplement. The most serious side effect of glucoamine chondroitin is allergies. And it is possible, especially for people with a shellfish allergy because some glucosamine supplements are made from shellfish.

I've also heard that some glucosamine supplements are contaminated. So it's important to buy from a trustworthy manufacturer and also read the ingredients list carefully.

SteamLouis-- Actually, glucosamine may or may not increase blood sugar. There really isn't a consensus on it. Earlier, doctors used to say that it did increase blood sugar. But there was a recent study that claimed the opposite.

My doctor told me to try it and check my blood sugar. I have been using it for a few days now and check my blood sugar several times a day. I haven't noticed an increase in my readings so far. But I will continue checking this week to make sure.

I suggest the same to other diabetics. Check with your doctor and if he or she approves, try a low dose while monitoring your blood sugar. If you see an increase, don't take it. It's definitely a risk. For those who don't experience this side effect though, the advantages are more than the disadvantages. Type 1 diabetics probably need to be more careful than type 2 diabetics about this. It's best to ask a doctor.

Glucosamine increases blood sugar. That's why people with diabetes are not recommended glucosamine side effects. I wanted to use it but have been avoiding it for this reason.
