What are the Different Uses for PVC Fencing?

There are many typical uses for polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, fencing as well as some not so typical uses. As with most fences, PVC fencing can be used to divide property lines and block access to a designated area. The permanent picket fence is often a typical homeowner's dream, but PVC fencing can also be used for temporary property division.

While the initial cost of PVC fencing is greater than that of a comparable wood fence, the long-term cost actually makes the former a better deal. Available in many long-lasting colors and styles, PVC is considered a durable fencing material. Compared to wood or iron, PVC fencing never requires repainting and is almost maintenance-free. While wood fencing rots and the paint often peels away after a short time out in the elements, the vinyl fencing remains in top-notch condition in all types of weather. PVC also tops iron fencing, which often rusts and suffers faded paint from the sun.

The fade-resistant and rot-proof traits of a vinyl fence make it a solid choice for crowd-control barriers. Unlike wood and iron fencing, which can leave chalky smudges on clothing when brushed against, the vinyl fencing leaves no such residue behind. Along with the permanent molded-in color, the vinyl fencing is lightweight, which makes it a good choice for use as a temporary fencing material. Concert venues, sporting event crowd control and ticket line locations can all benefit from the use of PVC fencing.

The many decorative designs of vinyl fencing make it suitable for every imaginable use, from garden fencing to pasturing horses. In areas where insects cause damage to wooden fences, a vinyl fence is a welcome alternative. The durability of the vinyl creates a fence which will not only provide a secure area for animals or children, but will remain pleasant to look at for years to come. Options such as electric fence insulators also allow a vinyl fence to be used with cattle, hogs or any livestock which might tend to attempt to break through a nonelectric fence.

When used as a privacy fence, PVC fencing is molded in designs from simulated wood to stone and brick. The molded panels provide a privacy barrier and a noise barrier as well. In homes situated near noisy roads or similar distractions, the sound-suppressing traits of PVC fencing often add a measure of tranquility to an otherwise unusable space.
