What Are the Different Types of Wall Clocks?

Even though digital clocks are most popular in our technology driven society, there is something to be said for telling time from the face of traditional clock. Most wall clocks have numbered faces as well as minute hands and second hands, instead of digital readouts. Most schools still use clocks with faces so children can learn to tell time properly rather than relying on digital timepieces.

Wall clocks are not just for keeping and telling time either. Sure, they are functional, but they can be stylish and fun too. Using these clocks is a great way to add some color, compliment your decor, or bring a whimsical touch to any room. Decorative clocks come in handcrafted wood styles, metal, acrylic, or silver and turquoise for a Southwestern theme. You can find wall clocks for almost any design plan, including favorite trademark characters for children's rooms, retro to modern styles, and kitchen themes.

Neon wall clocks add something extra to any space. Not only are they a great way to add extra light, they are also fun and funky. If you prefer something more traditional, consider a pendulum clock. Older models are wound with a key, while some of the more modern styles are battery operated. They are a bit larger and heavier than many other styles of clocks, so care should be taken when hanging a pendulum clock.

Some clocks feature the face of the 1950s and 1960s celebrity Marilyn Monroe.

Have you seen some of the wall clocks that are now collector's items? Who could forget the dancing Elvis Presley clock, or Marilyn Monroe, or the moving eyes of Felix the Cat? Clocks make great gifts too. Why not have one specially made to commemorate a 50th anniversary or other special occasion?

Most wall clocks are simple to hang and energy efficient to use, usually requiring only a couple of "AA" batteries to run. They keep time well, and there are even "smart" clocks that can automatically change from Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time, and back again as necessary, so they never have to be set manually. Technology continues to advance and some clocks are even able to check the time throughout the day via radio frequencies and then reset themselves to the proper time as needed.
