Laundry furniture placed near a washer and dryer can make the process of doing laundry easier, and may even help to save time and money. Some of the most common types of furniture found in a laundry room include laundry tables, freestanding drying racks, and hanging racks for drying clothing. Laundry furniture is typically very inexpensive and found in most discount stores, furniture and storage solution stores, or it may be re-purposed older furniture from other rooms in the house, since the decorative appeal of a laundry room is typically not very important.

A laundry table is one of the most helpful pieces of laundry furniture. This type of table is often taller than a standard height table, so it is easier to make use of while standing. It may or may not have drawers or shelving for storing items such as dryer sheets, fabric softener or laundry detergent; people who already have shelves mounted on the wall in the laundry room may not need to choose a table with drawers. These tables are typically designed like long countertops, and may be used for temporary storage and for folding clothes when they come out of the dryer. Aside from a table, items such as a hamper or laundry basket can also help to keep laundry out of the way before and after it is washed.

Racks for drying clothes can also be beneficial pieces of laundry furniture. Freestanding racks, which are typically very lightweight and feature small racks on a number of different levels, are great choices for drying smaller items of clothes, or items that need to lay flat to dry. Taller drying racks, where clothes may be hung on hangers to dry, are beneficial as well because these allow longer clothing to be air dried. These are typically a bit more expensive, and are occasionally used as freestanding racks for additional storage in a bedroom or closet.

There are many reasons to use this type of laundry furniture to air dry clothing. Clothing will not shrink if it is air dried, compared to if it is placed in a dryer. In addition, dryers use a great deal of energy, so cutting back on its usage can help to reduce monthly bills, as well as help the environment. It can also help to keep the air in the home a little more moist, which can be beneficial during the winter when the extra heat can make the air very dry. Making use of some inexpensive laundry furniture can make the process of doing laundry easier, cheaper, and faster, which is a plus for any household chore.
