Popular in the 21st century, green technology products aim to reduce waste, cut pollution, and even diminish fossil fuel use. Some of the major types of green technology products include energy creation products, green chemicals, sustainable or recyclable products, and technology that runs on alternative energy.
One major focus of the green movement is the reduction of fossil fuel use. Products that help create alternative energy, such as solar panels and thermal heating discs, are some of the most important green technology products used in everyday life. Solar panels, which can be installed on homes, apartments, and commercial buildings, use the sustainable heat of the sun to charge solar batteries, which can be used for electricity instead of traditional, non-sustainable sources like gas. Thermal heating discs, which are used in swimming pools, suck the sun's rays in and radiate them over the pool's surface, providing an alternative means of heating that avoids fossil fuel use.
Green chemicals are important in many green technology products. These products aim to create the same effects as toxic, polluting chemicals, while reducing risk of poisoning and environmental harm. Green chemical products include home cleaning agents made out of coconut and glycerin, insecticides that use orange or peppermint oil instead of toxic chemicals, and even green laundry detergent that can reduce water pollution.

@Sierra02 - You have several alternatives in wood flooring today that are both economical and environmentally friendly.
One of your best options is bamboo. It's almost as hard as oak or maple and can be left alone in it's natural blond color or carmelized for a beautiful darker tone. Eco-friendly builders harvest their bamboo by pruning the tree which stimulates new growth rather than destroying it.
Another option is cork flooring which is made from the bark of cork oak trees. It's durable, moisture resistant and provides thermal insulation. Each tree is harvested every nine years or so and can produce hundreds of pounds of cork while still surviving the harvest.
There are many renewable products being produced into wood flooring today that are just as beautiful as the real thing. You just have to do a little homework, know what you're looking for and what your budget is and go from there. Save a tree, go green.
My husband and I just purchased a new home that has the most awful blue carpet laid throughout the entire house. We're kind of up in arms on what to do about it.
My husband wants to rip it up and just lay some basic tile down. I like tile tool since it's fairly easy to take care of, but I've always dreamed of having a beautiful hardwood floor in my dining room.
Not only do we have to stay within our budget but we prefer to remain environmentally friendly too, so cutting down trees for us to walk on is not an option.
My question is what other alternatives do we have? What is the latest green technology in flooring today?
@ellafarris - Nice post and good job on going green. It ought to get people to thinking about their own actions and what green technology solutions they can come up with themselves.
We've been adding green energy products to our home for the past three or four years. When something needs replacing, we'll purchase the new energy efficient model.
Three years ago we converted our old chlorine consuming pool to a clean healthy saltwater system. Our energy bill was drastically cut after we added a new solar heating element to it and installed a new energy efficient pool pump.
Unfortunately green products have a higher price tag and I think that's part of the reason why going green has been slow to catch on. But I also believe once the demand increases then that initial investment will go down. It's a catch twenty-two.
I have to admit that my children are much more conscience of the environment and the impact we humans have had on it than I am. I'm getting better though, and learning mostly through them on the little things I can do to help reduce our footprint.
I've found myself purchasing more going green products for my home now, such as cleaning products and air fresheners. I recycle as much, and as often as I can and I purchased a water purifier so I don't have to purchase bottled water anymore.
I think once people get a better understanding of the environmental problems we're facing then they'll realize how important it is for each of us to do our part in protecting it. What steps have some of you taken?
