Life was becoming very difficult, and normal everyday things would suddenly bring on anxiety attacks and extreme depressive episodes. Since taking 10mg of Citalopram every day for two years now, I am living normally. Still have the fear in the back of my mind, but it hasn't come full blown for over 12 months now.
@simrin-- Citalopram works for some people with social anxiety. This pretty much applies to everything that citalopram is used for-- it works for some and not others. But it is definitely prescribed for social anxiety.
It is true that this is an antidepressant but depression and anxiety usually goes hand in hand, one can trigger the other. That's why most SSRIs can be prescribed for both depression and anxiety.
My sister was also prescribed this medication for panic attacks but I don't recall if it helped her or not.
@MikeMason-- What type of anxiety do you have? Does it work for social anxiety?
I know that this medication is mainly an anti-depressant but it has done wonders for my anxiety. It took a while for it to become effective but I think that's normal. I feel so much better since I've started taking it. I haven't had an anxiety attack in the past four months and I feel happy.
I think this is a great medication. I've been on other types of SSRIs before but none of them were able to get rid of my anxiety. I think citalopram improves mood and reduces anxiety equally well.
