What are the Different Ayurvedic Home Remedies?

Ayurveda is the traditional natural medicine of India. It views wellness as a condition arising from the body as a complete organism and takes a holistic approach rather than simply treating a symptom. Some of the different ayurvedic home remedies may be found to relieve indigestion, cold symptoms, and headaches. These herbal preparations are generally considered safe, although pregnant or nursing women or those with chronic health conditions may want to consult a doctor before self-medicating. They may be purchased online or at a local market.

To relieve symptoms of indigestion, for example, ayurvedic practitioners may recommend combining 0.5 U.S. teaspoons (0.4 metric teaspoons) of baking soda, 0.5 U.S. teaspoons (0.4 metric teaspoons) of oregano seeds, and a bit of salt along with a glass of warm water. Others suggest eating some pineapple at the end of a meal. Pineapple contains an enzyme that has been shown to aid digestion. Another ayurvedic home remedy for indigestion is taking 1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) of grape wine about a half hour prior to eating. Coffee, tea, and cigarette use should be severely reduced or eliminated entirely if someone wants to get rid of persistent indigestion.

The common cold may be treated using several different ayurvedic home remedies. One home remedy suggests grinding seven black peppercorns and then taking the mixture with a teaspoon of honey. This should be followed by swallowing half a clove of fresh garlic with a glass of warm water without chewing.

A tea may be made with 1 tablespoon (14.8 milliliters) of fenugreek seed, seven black peppercorns, 1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) minced ginger, and 2 cups (.23 liters) water. This combination should be boiled until it reduces down to one cup of water. Sugar and black tea may be used instead of plain water. This remedy may be taken 3-4 times per day.

The filtered juice from crushed jasmine flowers is one of the ayurvedic home remedies said to relieve headaches. The jasmine flower juice may be instilled into the nose 3-4 drops at a time. An alternate headache remedy involves combining 3.3 ounces (100 milliliters) of pennywort juice and 3.3 ounces (100 milliliters) of sesame oil. This mixture is then boiled, filtered, cooled, and applied to the scalp on a daily basis.

Some ayurvedic home remedies may be purchased in preformulated combinations that address specific complaints. They may be found online or in a local health food store. Most are considered to be safe, although some herbs do interact with prescription medications. It is very important for any pregnant or nursing woman, as well as anyone with a chronic illness, to consult a doctor before taking any ayurvedic home remedies.
