Yeast infection relief can be found when medications are taken for appropriate lengths of time. For immediate relief, it is advisable to use an external anti-itch cream during the treatment period. There are also a number of natural remedies that have been reported as highly effective, such as apple vinegar douches and baking soda baths.

Yeast infections may be treated with over-the-counter or prescription medications. Even after a couple of days of treatment there is still the possibility that the symptoms related to the condition can cause discomfort. For more immediate yeast infection relief, a person can use external vaginal anti-itch cream. This may be included with some over-the-counter treatments but it will need to be purchased separately when prescriptions are being used.

Those looking for yeast infection relief need to be sure to complete any treatments they begin. In many cases the symptoms of a yeast infection will disappear during the course of treatment. Some people mistakenly take this as an indication they are cured, and they stop taking their medication. This is a mistake, because the infection with its symptoms is likely to come back and going through cycles of partial treatment presents the risk of drug resistance.

Baking soda can be used to provide yeast infection relief. When it is consumed, baking soda can correct pH imbalances, which have been identified as a cause of these infections. Bathing in water containing baking soda for at least 15 minutes twice per day can help to alleviate symptoms.

Many women have reported yeast infection relief from homemade douches. Pau d'arco is obtained from the bark of trees indigenous to South America. It can commonly be found as tea bags or in whole bark form at health food stores. Exposing the tea bags or bark to hot water, allowing it to cool, and then using it as a douche may effectively alleviate yeast infection symptoms.

Apple cider vinegar can also be used to make a douche that provides yeast infection relief. It is important to make sure that white vinegar is not used. Even apple cider vinegar needs to be diluted to prevent vaginal irritation. Women who want relief but are weary of using the vinegar internally may find comfort by adding it to their bath water.

What a person eats can also have an impact on yeast. This is especially true for those looking for relief from recurring infections. Yeast need sugar and limiting the amount consumed can help starve the fungus. Eating certain foods, such as yogurt and garlic, can also be very effective in alleviating the symptoms and helping prevent the infection from returning.

@SarahGen-- I've used douches before, and they can be very effective. Aside from douches, you can try applying yogurt externally, taking probiotic supplements, eating garlic and applying coconut oil externally.

Yogurt and probiotics have good bacteria which can help re-balance your vaginal flora. Probiotics also strengthen the immune system. Garlic and coconut oil have anti-fungal properties and provide relief from yeast infection naturally.

Also, try to avoid sugar and carbohydrates because yeast thrives on them.

@SarahGen-- Natural remedies are nice but I think it's better to use anti-fungal medication. You need to tell your doctor that the cream didn't work so that she or he can prescribe a different one. I treated my yeast infection with an anti-fungal cream. There was instant yeast infection relief and the infection hasn't returned.

I have a vaginal yeast infection for the first time in my life. My doctor told me to use an over the counter cream. I did, but it didn't work. I want to try natural remedies now.

I've been eating a lot of yogurt. I have not tried the baking soda bath. That sounds great, I will definitely try that today. I've heard of vinegar douches before but I don't want to try it. A douche doesn't sound pleasant and I heard that it's bad for vaginal health in the long term.

Does anyone else know any natural yeast infection remedies? Please share them! I need to get rid of this fast!
