Since 25 November 1790, Trenton has remained New Jersey's capital city, incorporated with Trenton Township on 13 November, 1792. Trenton is located in the middle of the state of New Jersey. The city is noted as the birthplace of David Dinkins, who was the first black mayor of New York City from 1990 to 1993. There are many fun things to do in Trenton such as visiting the Grounds for Sculpture Park, Boehm Porcelain, the Trenton Museum at Ellarslie and the New Jersey State House.

The New Jersey State House offers guided tours by the Office of Legislative Services. The tours are one of the most popular things to do in Trenton for those interested in government as they focus on how the legislative process works. Information that relates to the history and architecture of the State House building is also given. Complete with grand balconies, the New Jersey State House was built in 1792 with new additions added in 1845, 1865 and 1871. After a few earlier renovations, the State House underwent a major renovation in 1987.

Visiting the Trenton Museum at Ellarslie is one of the best things to do in Trenton for those interested in the city's history. The museum has exhibits that relate to Trenton's role in the ceramics industry. Art, tableware and other historical items from the 19th and 20th centuries can be found inside the Trenton Museum at Ellarslie. The museum is inside Ellarslie Mansion which is in Cadwalader Park. Cadwalader Park was designed by the creator of New York City's Central Park, Frederick Law Olmstead.

E.M. Boehm, Inc., also known as Boehm Porcelain, is noted for its porcelain designing and manufacturing. Their Porcelain Restoration Department repairs porcelain family heirlooms and art pieces. Boehm uses the two thousand year old process of handcrafting porcelain that first took place in the Orient. Visitors can browse their showroom store to see many outstanding porcelain products.

One of the most fun and artsy things to do in Trenton is going to the Grounds for Sculpture Park. This sculpture garden is open year round except for scheduled closures. The Park features both indoor and outdoor sculptures in many different materials. Poetry readings and musical performances are also sometimes held at Trenton's Grounds for Sculpture Park.
