What are Some Decor Ideas for Home Wet Bars?

Decor ideas for home wet bars include choosing a theme or style and then following that vision through for a cohesive look. For example, if the idea is for a modern looking wet bar, then an antique bar set on display will probably not fit in well. If you want to create a 1950s diner style bar, then keep your accent pieces from that era as much as possible.

Neon or other signs hung behind the home wet bar can make it look more like an actual bar. You can take your color scheme from the signs even if it is non-specific such as pastels or bright. If you don't like the fabric and/or color of your bar stool seats, it's pretty easy to stretch new fabric over the old and secure it under the chair with a staple gun. For extra comfortable seating, add a layer of foam before stapling.

A mirror or mirror tiles around the bar area can look great and make the space seem larger. Long glass shelves with a mirror behind them are one of the best decor ideas as they look spacious and can hold a lot of items as well. Glass door fronts on cupboards can also give the illusion of more space. Racks that hold wine glasses can be attached to the bottom of cupboards to save cupboard space.

You may want to add some small appliances to your home wet bar. Try to keep the colors and shapes of the appliances, such as blenders, in keeping with your decorating theme. Mini dishwashers are great to have for washing glasses and a mini bar fridge with a freezer can allow you to have a steady supply of ice for drinks.

Don't ignore lighting. You want to be able to see what you're mixing! Lighting should blend in with your mood and theme. If you're considering what shape of bar to use, don't limit yourself to a rectangular shaped bar. Great decor ideas for home wet bars can include a semi-circular or other shape of bar.

Like the article said, lighting can make a huge difference in the feel of your home bar.

A lot of people like to use those string lights (kind of like Christmas lights, but with decorative covers) to give their bar a little character.

Of course, a lot of times these may not provide enough lighting for the mixologist, so you may want to put in a few ceiling spotlights as well.

One trick I learned when designing my home bar is to make sure to keep enough usable space available on the bar top.

While it's tempting to put little decorations or knick knacks up there, they can really get in your way when mixing drinks.

The same goes for home bar furniture -- it may look cute, but if it's going to get in the way, you would do better to go without.

One thing to bear in mind when choosing a home wet bar design is to consider how much time you will be spending using it, and how many people you plan to serve with it.

For those who only use the wet bar a few times a month, you may not want to invest in a super-nice bar set and full length mirror.

On the other hand, if you're throwing a cocktail party every weekend, then by all means, invest in a good mixer and some comfy bar stools!
