How do I Increase Cervical Mucus?

If you are trying to conceive and do not typically notice fertile cervical mucus during ovulation, it is important to find out how to remedy this in order to increase chances of conception. Cervical mucus plays a large role in getting pregnant, since the right amount and consistency allows sperm to travel to the cervix during ovulation, which means that having insufficient mucus decreases the chances of fertilization. Fortunately, there are many ways to increase cervical mucus, starting with a change in diet. Quitting certain habits and picking up positive ones can also help with this endeavor. Additionally, there are supplements known to increase levels of cervical mucus within months, so that you have the best chances possible of conception.

One of the easiest ways to increase cervical mucus is to stay hydrated by drinking more water. Dry cervical mucus is often the result of a dry body in general, so this basic tip just may solve the issue. Another change to make is to add green tea to the diet, as many women claim that the ingestion of this beverage from menstruation until ovulation can help increase your cervical mucus. Additionally, using an expectorant cough medicine, as its active ingredient, guaifenesin, can thin out and increase your mucus. You can take about two teaspoons three times daily for a few days prior to ovulation, or you can take a tablet each day. These tips are usually the best to start with during the quest for more cervical mucus, since they are inexpensive and tend to have no ill side effects.

Some women trying to get pregnant still smoke. Not only is this a bad habit to bring to a pregnancy, but it can also dry up cervical mucus, which makes it a good idea to quit well before trying to conceive. Excessive caffeine intake is also usually frowned on when trying to conceive since it is a diuretic, which means that it dehydrates the body. You do not have to quit ingesting caffeine completely, but try to limit it to less than 300 mg daily. Also, drink one extra glass of water per caffeinated beverage in order to stay hydrated. Following these tips can both increase cervical mucus and improve your health overall.

There are some remedies on the market that are known to increase cervical mucus. For example, you can take up to 3000 mg of evening primrose oil each day, starting during your period and ending at ovulation. You may also consider taking L Arginine, which is known for increasing nitric oxide, resulting in dilated blood vessels and increased cervical mucus. You can purchase these products over-the-counter, but if you are unsure if you should take them, ask your doctor first.

It sounds so simple, but drinking more water does increase fertile cervical mucus. I think most of us don't drink enough water and don't even realize it. And cervical mucus is mostly water.

@SarahGen-- Evening primrose oil really works for cervical mucus. I started taking it four months ago and there is definitely an increase in my cervical mucus. Just make sure to stop taking it after you ovulate. It's supposed to be more effective that way.

I've also heard that grapefruit juice can increase cervical mucus but I did not try it because it interacts negatively with a medication I'm on. You might want to give it a try though.

I don't think it's a good idea to take cough medication to increase cervical mucus. I don't mind trying primrose oil though. I will look for it at the store.

Does anyone here know any other home remedies to increase cervical mucus naturally?
