How do I Choose the Best Vein Clinic?

Vein clinics are used to treat varicose and spider veins. They may use vein sclerotherapy or laser therapy as a treatment for faulty veins in the legs. The advantage of going to a specialized clinic for treatment of your varicose veins is that the physicians and staff at vein clinics are well trained in the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins. Their experience means that you will get the best possible results from your medical procedure.

Vein sclerotherapy involves injecting a saline mixture directly into the affected vein. If the injection is made in the wrong spot, the procedure will not work. Additionally, the area that is injected with the solution will become extremely bruised, tender or itchy. Having a physician that has done numerous procedures is a definite advantage.

Choosing the best vein clinic can be difficult. Many vein clinics do a good job of advertising, but there is no guarantee that they are good at treating problem veins. Spend some time investigating vein clinics before you commit to one.

The clinic should be clean, the employees friendly and helpful, and you shouldn’t have to wait over 15 minutes past the scheduled appointment time.

When talking to the doctor, you should feel that you have plenty of time to ask questions. They should be eager to provide you with before and after pictures of previous patients. Finally, they should be happy to take a look at your varicose veins and give you an honest assessment of your potential for treatment.

If you are happy with the vein clinic, it is time to consider the costs. Because vein treatment is generally considered cosmetic surgery, do not expect your insurance to pay for it. Most vein clinics will have several payment plans and will work with you to find the best option for your financial situation.

I hate to say it, but this article misses on a lot of key points. I have been providing vascular education for over a decade and one of the biggest misconceptions about vein disease is that it is cosmetic.

There is a cosmetic element to vein procedures, however insurance companies often cover treatments of the underlying problem. Endovenous ablation is the primary treatment for venous insufficiency which is the cause of varicose veins. The secondary treatment is often sclerotherapy which is covered by most insurance plans if used in conjunction.

To choose the best vein center you should do three things at a minimum: Is the diagnostic testing at the facility of high quality? They should be IAC accredited in venous testing.

Is the surgeon dedicated to the treatment of veins? Just because they are a renowned vascular surgeon doesn't necessarily mean they are the best in your area at treating veins.

Do they provide comprehensive vein care or only endovenous ablation? Many facilities focus on one aspect of vein care, however they must be able to provide a complete service including sclerotherapy, treatment of perforators, ultrasound guided sclerotherapy and endovenous ablation. Stripping and ligation should not be routinely performed.
