A travel wallet is generally a pretty good idea if you travel a lot. Even in a ticketless society we all still end up carrying a bunch of paper and a good travel wallet will keep it all neat and tidy for you, as well as keeping your passport looking good.
They have become more and more strict on what they'll allow with passport condition, so I'd be very careful not to let mine get damaged.
@indigomoth - The problem with that kind of passport holder is that the only time I ever really walk around with my passport is when I actually need to be able to access it for some reason. If I'm not going to need it, I usually keep it in a safe.
And a passport and ticket holder that looks like a belt doesn't sound like it would be particularly easy to access, since they'd have to hide the opening against your body.
I have to admit, I just keep my passport in my coat, in an inner pocket that isn't immediately obvious. Maybe it's not quite as safe as keeping it in a secret compartment, but it does mean when I need to get my passport I don't have to fiddle around in order to get it.
There's a really cool passport holder that you can get which is basically shaped like a belt and it isn't obvious at all that it can contain a passport or other things like money.
So, even if you get robbed or if you are anxious about walking through the airport or something like that, you can just keep it on and no one will realize that you have your passport on you.
The only thing is that if you are being particularly diligent you would have to make sure no one ever saw you getting your passport out of it, because that would spoil the trick.
