How do I Choose the Best Business Walkie Talkies?

Business walkie talkies are communication devices that are often used as part of an internal communications network at a construction site, warehouse, or manufacturing plant. The two-way radio approach allows for quick and easy communication between two points, without the need to go through any type of outside network. Choosing the right walkie talkies for your business situation requires considering three essentials before making a purchase: range, features, and cost.

Not everyone is aware that the range for reliable and stable communications is different from one make and model of business walkie talkies to the next. In order to determine if the range of a given set is right for your business, consider the geographic area you need to cover and determine the distance between the two most remote points on the site. Doing so will ensure that reception of the signals remains strong no matter where the two parties may be on the grounds, eliminating the frustration that can occur when someone is out of the range of the equipment.

Identifying the features required on the business walkie talkies is also very important. One of the most important is the type of radio frequency and signaling that the units will utilize in the communication process. Check with local authorities to determine the frequencies that are allowed for business use, and identify different models based on that information. Also consider other features that may be helpful, like the size of the units, the difficulty in setting up the walkie talkie system itself, the quality of the speakers, and how long the units can be used before the batteries must be recharged.

As with any purchase of business equipment, it is imperative to consider the cost of the business walkie talkies carefully before making a purchase. The idea is to buy the system that provides the highest level of quality, all the features desired, while spending the lowest amount of money possible. In order to successfully accomplish this goal, take the time to identify ratings for each system under consideration, and actively search for consumer reviews of the units. Pay close attention to anything you can find regarding the average life of the units as well as comments on the clarity of the signals and the ease and cost of replacing any components that may be damaged or wear out in the course of day to day usage. By taking the time to investigate what others think of different business walkie talkies, you increase your chances of getting the best deal on the best units and enjoying many years of service before replacement becomes necessary.

@Soulfox -- I disagree. I do agree with the notion that smartphones are great if you are talking about just two people communicating, but that's not what businesses do with walkie talkies.

No, you might have 10 people tuned in on walkie talkies and they all need to hear what is going on during an event or something and respond to each other. You can't do what with a smartphone.

I do believe the best business walkie talkie is called a cell phone. Seriously, though, why would you need a walkie talkie when almost everyone has a smartphone and those are not limited by range?

Some people might have sentimental reasons to cling to walkie talkies (a lot of us had them as kids, after all) but they are totally obsolete now and have been since cell phones were adopted by the masses.

That is doubly true with those many businesses that provide smartphones to their employees. You don't need to spend the extra money on a walkie talkie.
