How do I Choose the Best Bathtub Pillow?

There’s nothing more relaxing than enjoying a bubble bath with a good book and a comfortable bathtub pillow to cradle the head and neck. Finding the right bathtub pillow can be a daunting task, especially when there are so many types to choose from. It is possible to choose a pillow to use in the bath by looking for those that have the right features and quality to last a long time. The best bathtub pillow is one that provide comfort and cleanliness.

Bathtub pillows made from inflatable soft vinyl work well for those who enjoy a relaxing bath once in a while, but need to keep the pillow safely stored away in a drawer when not in use. These are often the least expensive bath pillows and come in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. A vinyl air-filled bath pillow is also good for travelers because of its portability and compact size when deflated.

Sometimes, a little more permanent solution is needed when using a bathtub pillow for daily baths. In this case, there are tub pillows made from vinyl and plastic that attach to the tub surface with suction cups. These can be left in place for the long term. Sometimes, the bathtub pillow also features a soft flocking material where the head touches it so that it is more comfortable. This kind of pillow can also be moved and cleaned anytime.

Some bathtub pillows are made out of a waterproof material and include a removable, soft fabric covering, much like a real pillow. These can be purchased in a luxury bathroom accessories store for personal use. Often, nicer bath pillows include terry cloth or microfiber covers. Bath lovers can create custom, homemade bath pillows from materials found in craft and bath stores.

High-end bathtub pillows include not only a soft surface for resting the neck and head during a bath, but also a spa treatment built in. Pillows of this type can include herbal scents and vapors. Some have heated gel inserts and waterproof massagers. Bathtub accessories can also include massage mats, rain shower sprinklers, and more.

@Grivusangel -- I've seen those, but didn't know how well they worked. I'll have to try one!

I do have the inflatable one that has terrycloth on it. It's washable, which is nice, since I surely don't want the cloth part to mold or anything. I wash it on the delicate cycle.

I've tried the herb sachets in mine, but didn't get much out of it. I couldn't really smell the herbs and I couldn't tell if I was more relaxed or not. I'm not sure it really did anything for me. Maybe the herbs are like catnip-- they work for some people, and some people they don't.

And sometimes, bath pillows have a gel inside them so you don't have to inflate them. I like those, as long as they have a terrycloth covering, so it doesn't catch my hair.

The nice thing about the gel-filled pillows is the gel holds the heat from the water for a long time, and it's great for your neck and shoulders to have that heat seeping into your muscles. Makes me relaxed and sleepy to think about it. I've never tried the aromatherapy kind, but they sound really nice. I love to take a good, hot bath for relaxation. It's wonderful.
