How can I Prepare to Go to a Tanning Salon?

There are several things to consider as you prepare to go to a tanning salon. Steps taken before you tan can improve your satisfaction with the effects after visiting a salon. However, it is important to state that using a tanning salon is not without risk.

Before you go, you need to consider your family history in regards to skin cancer. If you are light-skinned, have more than 100 moles, or have a family history of skin cancer, it is better not to use a tanning salon. The tanning process will expose you to the same UV rays as the sun, and does increase your chance of developing skin cancer. You can achieve a tanned look with spray on tans offered more and more frequently at salons.

You may also want to consider any medications you take as you prepare to go to a tanning salon. Some prescriptions can cause photosensitivity, a condition that makes you more likely to burn in the sun or tanning bed. Photosensitivity may also cause rashes after sun or tanning bed exposure. Certain antibiotics and other drugs can cause this effect, so you should consult with your doctor before you go to a tanning salon.

Once you have the all clear to tan, you need to take a few more steps. Several weeks before you tan, you should start gently exfoliating the skin each day. This means scrubbing off the dead layers of skin, and can be accomplished through a number of exfoliant creams or through bath puffs, which are little puffs made of nylon mesh.

You should exfoliate your skin the day you plan to go to the tanning salon, but it is important that this process is gentle and does not scrape or scratch the skin. By following a daily exfoliation regimen during your shower or bath, you can better prepare to go to a tanning salon, because the UV rays will be able to reach the newest skin, thus providing an even tan.

Opting for an outfit with more skin exposure will ensure a larger area of the body is tanned.

As well as exfoliation, you should also be moisturizing your skin on a daily basis. The day that you go to the salon, use a good moisturizer on your skin, everywhere you plan to tan. However, be certain that the moisturizer does not contain sunscreen as this will block some of the UV rays and make time spent in the tanning bed less effective.

As you prepare to go to a tanning salon, don’t apply any products like astringents that contain alcohol. This will dry the skin and make it less able to tan. Dry skin often reflects UV rays.

Some tanning salons might offer different lotions and creams so customers don't get burned.

You may also want to find out the number of times you will need to use a tanning salon before obtaining the desired results. In all cases, don’t expect an instant tan. The skin will gradually darken over a number of days. Those with lighter skin will likely need more visits to a salon to achieve a deep tan.

SauteePan- Also, if you are interested in owning a tanning salon, you should visit a business broker who can give you insight as to how the business is run and what potential income you can earn from such a venture.

A business broker functions like a real estate agent does, but instead of selling homes, he or she sells businesses.

They earn their commissions from the sellers and can earn up to 10% commission. These people can even offer you a test to see which types of businesses you are best suited for.

They can also give you the average income ranges earned in various business sectors. You may want to go and buy a cheap tanning salon or a tanning salon franchise, only to find out that your passion involves pets and therefore a pet business would be better for you.

It does not cost anything to consult with a business broker and they could provide insight on how to open a tanning salon.

Latte31-Opening a tanning salon requires not only knowing the demographics of your target market but determining which are the best locations in which to operate.

For example, a perfect location in Miami is South Beach. South Beach is a trendy part of Miami Beach that caters to a cosmopolitan atmosphere where people want the latest and greatest of everything from sunglasses to high restaurants to exclusive clubs.

Also, the fact that the beach is across the street from Ocean Dr, the trendiest part of South Beach, also enhances this business opportunity.

Here people that already have a little sun can get a deeper and richer tan with a tanning salon.

Suntan12-When you are looking to open a tanning salon, the best thing you can do is go work in one for a while, at least for six months.

This way you can learn the business and decide if it is really for you. You can also obtain information on tanning salon prices and determine how to competitively price your services.

I know that South Beach tanning offers a tanning salon franchise. They require about $100,000 to $150,000 in cash reserves in order to obtain financing.

They say that a typical salon can range from 9 to 18 beds and can cost from $350,000 to $550,000.

There is SBA financing available to those that qualify. They do offer training which is the biggest advantage when starting a tanning salon.

You can also look for existing tanning salons for sale in the Wall Street Journal Start Up Guide which is available online and free to the public.

Here there are lists of businesses for sale and many of the listings include additional information regarding the business like the number of years in the business and some offer revenue information.
