Alfalfa supplements are thought to possess the ability to help with a number of different types of body ailments. Usually composed of the leaves and flowers from the alfalfa plant, these dietary supplements contain an ample amount of vitamins and minerals that are necessary for a healthy body. Many homeopathic physicians and herbalists find that alfalfa supplements are excellent herbal medicine, and one that has few if any side effects.

Few herbs contain the range of necessary nutrients that are found in alfalfa supplements. Alfalfa is very rich in chlorophyll and natural protein. A high concentration of Vitamins A, B6, D, E, and K are present as well. Along with these elements, there are also respectable amounts of iron, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. These supplements are also said to contain eight of the essential amino acids as well. In short, there is a lot of health producing power contained in these herbal supplements.

The use of alfalfa supplements is understood to be helpful with a number of ailments. Persons who suffer from arthritis may find that taking alfalfa will help to ease the constant pain, as the compound helps to neutralize uric acid in the system. Promoting better digestion and easing the frequency of stomach upsets is another often-cited result of regular use of alfalfa products. There are sources that claim that alfalfa supplements also can help to normalize blood pressure, minimize mental and physical fatigue, and help to eliminate toxins from the body.

As with any type of herbal supplement, it is a good idea to consult a professional, such as a homeopathic physician or herbalist before embarking on a regular schedule with alfalfa supplements. These types of professionals can help you determine the correct dosage for your situation. Also, it is important to talk with your family doctor about what you are taking. This is especially true if the individual is also taking prescription medication. Some herbs and vitamin supplements can interfere with the effectiveness of the nuclear medicine, and in some cases create adverse effects. While reactions between alfalfa supplements and prescription medication is very rare, it is always wise to make sure your doctor knows exactly what you are taking in the way of herbs and vitamins, so there is no risk of any type of adverse reaction.

I found this to be a very useful piece of information. At my age, I'm looking for help with my knee pain.

I've been told verbally of this supplement, but needed to see it in print somewhere to be more comfortable with the info. I'm not a real big fan of prescription drugs or their prices, making me glad I found this web page. Thank you.

Go get the Alfafa supplements. They are less than 4 dollars for 1300mg 300 tabs.

I took 10 pills/day of alfalfa (i.e. 5 grams) for 10 days to get rid of arthritis in my knee (which I hurt 20 years ago and it recently started bothering me). It did the trick. Once before this dosage helped when I had a bad hand from using a heavy hand-powered stapler quite a lot one day.

@extrordinary--If you want to go the fresh route, go to your local organic store and look for the alfalfa sprouts in the salad section. They should look fresh, tender and be on the crispy side. I have found my grocer sells them still in the growing trays to ensure freshness.

Since alfalfa has a high content of water they will fill you up fast. I read somewhere where they have only ten calories per cup serving! Yea!!

I like mine on top of my salads or sometimes in place of lettuce on a sandwich.

It sounds like I need to incorporate these sprouts into my diet. I am not used to eating leafs or grass so I don't know much about them. Can anyone tell me how best to purchase them and also give me some ideas on how to cook with them? Thanks
